Description

…and so, here we are, almost half a month late, but it’s time for the 2015 year in review!

Oh, and may I extend my thanks to :iconsophillia: for the template!

January -Ironing

Whenever I draw images like this, I’m always reminded of the early days of me drawing ponies in which amusingly, I couldn’t draw hind legs to save my life! As such I always try and have at least one return of ‘the convenient table’ that would block out their lower halves in at least one image. This year though I thought I’d try something different, and have it behind them…

…that, and stacking freshly pressed bows an collars on the floor isn’t really all that great…

February - Tin Bath

Some people always kept telling me that they imagined Octavia’s parents having a fairly lavish lifestyle, can’t imagine for the life of me why though, as I’ve not really shown much of their home (One of the benefits of spot illustrations!) I had originally planned on them living in a house similar to the one seen in the opening credits to Gerry Anderon’s <a wytiwyg="1" href=“www.youtube.com/watch?v=Appw7O…">The Secret Service (Actually a manor in Buckinghamshire!) But recently, after a lot of travelling, I suddenly noticed the old station master’s house at Matlock station  (Surprised I never noticed it before given how often I go there! Something like that would probably suit them in my opinion.

March - Massage

There are certain images I’ve drawn that always manage to give me a laugh despite seeing them several times. This one is certainly a high contender.

I suppose it must be due to the whole ‘can image what’s built up to this moment & What’s going to happen after’ thing that people are always saying they can imagine! =P

The mental image of Octadad tied up like a pretzel on a massage table still amuses me no end! :P

April - Ceremony - Alternate Frame

The month in which Multi-panelled comics made their return! Granted, they sort of fizzled into obscurity sometime during the mid season hiatus, but I still managed to make it last longer than I initially thought it would :P

I must admit, With this comic in particular, I actually kind of wish I’d kept this frame for the punchline. Granted, having a Wicker Pony that resembles the image of the equal ponies makes more sense, but one based Celestia looks far more impressive. And, you know, all that ‘HAIL THE GOD OF THE SUN!!!’ malarkey.

May - Nude-Tavia

Fun Fact: Whether it be with ponies or my professional illustration and animation work, I always struggle to draw necks, along with wrists and ankles. As you can probably guess, drawing Octavia without her trademark bowtie is a real challenge, but I thought I’d give it a go a few times, just to keep me on my toes. This is why I’m a big fan of the character design used on Firemountain Production’s ‘The Treacle People’. For those of you who’ve never seen it, all the characters wear turtleneck jumpers, scarves or something else that conveniently covers the lower half of their face!

You’ll probably also notice now that almost every character I draw has something at least partly covering their neck (Such as Octavia’s collar and bow, Vinyl’s hair, Octamum’s hair and Octadad’s pyjamas!)

June - Octa-blivious

Being totally honest, there’s one detail about this image that has always bugged me. When I was initially drawing this, I was torn between having Octamum’s eyes closed, or having them open in an unimpressed expression. I can’t recall for the life of me why I decided to go with having her sleeping, and personally, I do feel it was a mistake, I should have had her annoyed.

We all have failures though I suppose.

July - Wet Westbeach Town

I’ve drawn a surprising amount of railway themed stuff this year, even by my standards!

It’s also nice to get a bit of practice in a the cell shading I use in some of my professional work, even if it is unpopular compared to my traditional work. Even so, this was mainly a test to have a go at drawing a rain scene. Can’t say I’ve ever drawn one of those before, and you know, I think it turned out alright…

August - Possesive

It amuses me how many people where shocked to see Octadad being overprotective.

It amuses me even more how podgy he looks :P

September - Pills

Same old year…same old illnesses…

I do quite like making comics that parody real life with OCs of friends, but it’s a shame that too many of the comical situations that occur would need an awful lot of explaining and backstory in the description that nobody would read to explain!

October - Scooter

I AM still adamant about getting this as a sticker!

Out of all the cell shaded pony stuff I’ve made, this one probably is my favourite. And for the fist time, I’m actually quite happy with how a vehicle looks!

November - Autumn Walk

Fun Fact: Autumn is probably my favourite season, mainly due to the colours, just a shame that it didn’t seem to last so long in 2015.

Surprisingly, I spent most of my Autumn wandering round the gardens of Alton Towers every Sunday morning (A lot of theme park stuff happens towards the start of November!) It’s amazing just how much stuff there is in there, including the amount of houses!

December - The Nutcracker

…and so, another year was brought to a close. Surprisingly quite than last year, but I suppose the 2014 Artist’s Training Ground being in December probably accounts for the drop in image numbers, not that I’m a quantity over quality kind of guy anyway…

Still, Octamum’s look of determination still amuses me! :P

Now, onwards to 2016!
