At the Museum

Description

What's this? Education with a hint of comedy?

So today was the start of my four day weekend from University. On these days I usually just pack a sketchbook in my bag, and walk into Bolton town centre for the day, sketching down anything that is of interest to me. Today I finally managed to track down the local library, and found out that it also has an aquarium, an art gallery and a museum in there, so I decided to go and see what exhibits there were in the museum.

However, as I began to sketch one of the exhibits I thought to myself 'Why not draw Octavia & Vinyl's reactions to the exhibits?' And so it was done. Most of the exhibits they had on show were to do with the history of Bolton from the 1600 onwards, due to the great industrial boom starting around that time and shaping the place into what it is today.

Notes on the Exhibits:

Exhibit One) - It surprises me how well that 1950's dress suits Octavia! Seriously, I don't know what it is about it, but it just seems to make her look more adorable than she usually does in my opinion! :D

Exhibit Two) - I can't believe I didn't take down any notes for this piece of machinery, as anyone who knows me well will know I have an interest in steam powered machinery. Totally clueless as to how to build or repair one, but there's just something about all those mechanical parts creating a load of noise and working unison, bellowing steam that satisfies me so! Still never did find out what this piece of machinery did, but as Vinyl demonstrates if you turned the wheel in front of it the top part span round, turning human strength into kinetic energy, so yeah, science!

Exhibit Three) - I don't know why they called these 'Wine Measures' since they were actually used for beer! Basically it turns out that these used to be mandatory for the pubs in England, each cup is a different measurement, half a pint, a pint, etc. and the barman would pour the drink into the measuring cup and fill it before putting it into the patrons glass. Failure to take this procedure could result in the landlord being fined for over charging customers for less ale or beer than they paid! Remember, this was in the days when ale/beer was drank in tankards, so besides this there was no way on checking if you had a full pint!

Exhibit Four) - No joke, my reaction was pretty much like Vinyl's. The only downside was that it had Mario Kart in the slot and not Super Mario World 2 or Donkey Kong Country 2, those games were my childhood!

Exhibit Five) - Once again, Octavia looks adorable in that Kimono, but then again, so does Vinyl!

Exhibit Six) - There was a small Ancient Egypt exhibit in one of the side rooms of the museum. Quite interesting actually, and it brought back memories of seeing the treasures of Tutankhamen in London a good few years back! They did actually hand a mummified body in bandages on display, but what interested me more was the three mummified crocodile they had on display, one fully wrapped, one partly unwrapped, and one fully unwrapped. You could still make out the scales, claws and teeth on the unwrapped one! Whilst mummification is most certainly rather grisly when you look into the details of it, you've got to hand it to the Egyptians for preserving the bodies so well!

Saying "A SNES" is bad grammar. Say "An SNES"
