Pony Animation Test

No need to adjust your speakers, I've muted the sound! (Got to keep some of the mystery here, haven't I?)

I wasn't originally planning on sharing a work in progress animation, but given some questions I get asked from time to time (Such as 'How do I get started?') I thought I might as well. That, and given this is the first time I've ever lip synced a pony, I'm very happy with the results. Granted, you can't experience the sync without the sound, but trust me, I got it right!

And for those of you who are still wondering how to get started when making a hand drawn animation, here's the number one tip I can give (And this was taught to me by an ex-CosgroveHall animator!):

ALWAYS work in rough as much as possible.

It may sound silly, but honestly, if you work in rough scribbles as much as you physically can before going on to what's known as the 'clean up' stage, you'll save yourself from all the stress of trying to make everything pristine and neat at an early stage, which hardly ever turns out for the better!

Oh, and for those of you who are wondering, I'm working in Adobe Flash. Yes, I'm aware it's a pretty outdated medium in the current animation market, but hey, you're talking to a guy who'd never even attempted digital animation until two years ago! (I've always been more of a stop-motion person myself!)
